What have you heard about gum disease? Did you know that gum disease can lead to several issues if it isn’t addressed? For instance, gum disease can actually cause red or swollen gums, bad breath, shifting teeth, and eventually tooth loss. However, did you know that not getting enough sleep might actually leave you more susceptible to this problem?

As you might already know, most people recommend getting at least eight hours of sleep a night. However, some people only need seven hours of sleep. Regardless, if you don’t get enough sleep, your body may have an inflammatory response. This is what leaves you more vulnerable to gum disease, but can also leave you more susceptible to illnesses like heart disease.

Unfortunately, if you don’t get enough sleep, you’ll actually be almost as likely to have gum disease as individuals who smoke. However, aside from getting enough sleep, you should also remember to brush and floss your teeth regularly if you’re interested in avoiding this problem.
