Helping your tween or teen care for their smile might seem a bit challenging, but there is no need to worry. In fact, the best ways for them to care for their smile is with the same techniques you use for your smile. So, it should be easy peasey! To give you the details you need so you can help your child, Dr. Anglemire and Dr. Schafer are happy to give you instructions.

First, help your tween or teen keep up on oral hygiene. They need to use a soft-bristled toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, floss, and antibacterial mouthwash to clean their smile daily. The oral hygiene tools they use should have the American Dental Association Seal of Approval. This approval means the tool is safe for use.

Second, make sure they drink water throughout the day, limit between-meal snacking, and reduce their sugar consumption as much as possible. These things help because drinking water can wash harmful bacteria away, limiting between-meal snacking can give the teeth time to recover, and reducing sugar intake can reduce the chances of falling victim to tooth decay.

Third, make sure they visit Granger Family Dentistry PC every six months for a routine dental cleaning and exam. The treatment provided at these appointments can deeply clean your tween or teen’s smile and help them avoid cavities and smile infection. These appointments also allow our team to monitor your child’s oral health as well as perform additional treatments (like fluoride treatment or dental sealant placement) if necessary.
